Hi,

I would like to know which type the fastest USB-ISP programmer is.
At the moment i use an USB-ISP prog1 from EMBUD.
Programming a M2560 with nearly all the flash (261776 of a total of 262144 bytes) takes 170 seconds.
This is approximately 1540 bits per seconds.

I would like to ask if you are willing to post the time your programmer needs to program a AVR.

Frank.

Probably too late but the speed for programing in isp mode depends on the SPI clock maximum speed.
It can not (or should not) be more than max. cpu clock\4. You probably can not get much more speed from one with USB than an STK500 with RS232.
This automatically limits the speed of it since the AVRs are not really clocked fast (20 MHz max. on some).
Plus most of the spent time is the wait for the FLASH. USB will not significantly increase the speed.
