hello all
i like connect max232 and atxmega128a1 directly!
and think so output of max232 is around 5 volt and in transmit or receive from max232 maybe xmega damage
i have that question , can i connect max232 to xmega directly?
thank you
I think that this is not good to connect max232 directly to xmega128a1
For xmega128a1 I usually use max3232, has the same pin configuration as MAX232.
The difference is in supply voltage:
MAX232 work at 5V, output end input level = 5V
MAX3232 work at 3V to 5.5V, output end input level = 3V to 5V depending of
power supply,(accept 5V logic input with 3.3V supplay).
Look at the MAX232 datasheet on page 17 you sill see a suggested circuit. Unless I am very much mistaken, all you need to do is connect the microcontroller to the "TTL/CMOS" pins (either input or output as needed).
Be sure to use the capacitors as dictated in the datasheet.
