You get speed by integrating ( summing over time ) acceleration. And you get distance by integrating speed. Can be handled easily with an AVR and Bascom, but the inevitable noise in the signals always leads to drift in the velocity, made worse when you integrate again to get distance. You need some good way of stabilising the drift. One of those things which is really easy in theory, but very difficult in practice.
