What do you mean by wall hugging??

Something that he search for a wall and then ride beside it..

Or search a wall and approach it from the front and stops...

I don't have a clue..

No,I mean the basis of a wall following robot, which would travel the perimeter of the room, and then perhaps later, branch out from there, but small steps first.Bry. Smile

I think for wall following you need a little bit more than just 2 bumpers..

Because something has to detect how far your off a wall.. Because when a bumper is pressed your robot touch the wall and only when he leaves the wall the sensor resets himself..

So there is no vairable detection that 'looks' how far your off the wall..

Simple but effective.. IR led And ir reciever .. Same way lego has contructed there light sensor. This sensor can give a raw value to let you see how close an object is.. But there even better ways to do that..

Just search on the internet for such things as IR eyes, proximity detectors and on and on..

It can be done with only one bumper. Tamiya sells a small wall hugging robot kit that is super simple.

You can also find these at Frye's Electronics and numerous places on the web.

From there, you can modify it or build a different one that uses IR sensors to detect the wall without touching it.

This has nothing to do with micorcontrollers..

Because tamiya uses a very simpel system.. 1 wheel is always driven the other wheel will only run if the sensor is touched.. So when the first wheel runs, the sensors touches the wall and activate the second motor to correct the steering to the wall..

But yeah you can use a microcontroller to check the button and controll the motors Wink

Here's a link to some bascom sample code. Some of it was written by me, and the array code was found on the internet. Feel free to use it to make your robot.
