Hi,
I am studying if I should take the plunge into the AVR DB family, more particularly the AVR128DB28 which has a DIP28 configuration available. Digging through the datasheet, it appears the timers/counters are quite different. It has 1-16 bit TCA timer and 3-16Bit TCB timers. Reading through the datasheet several times, I still cannot figure out if the TCB can function as normal timer/counter mode, meaning counting external event from an input pin like the other AVRs. I read that TCA can the normal timer function but am really confused with the TCB functions as a normal timer/counter.
Thank you for any assistance.

TCB can not take a pin input directly. but it can take input from the event system. and you can configure an event for a pin change.
in the evsys you have generators of events. for example the PORTx.
And timer TCB is an event user. you can have a count on event (edge)
while more work to configure the beauty is that it is handled without the processor.
DB is more like a new Xmega. Some times with less features, other times with more. _________________ Mark
