I need to purchase two programmers, as my kamprog has failed and I'm waiting for new chips to replace U4 & U6 to arrive from China.
Question:
Does the mysmartUSBlight work with the atmega1284p as it is not listed as such; OR can the driver be updated to program this device.

the mysmartUSBlight works with all ISP chips. It uses the stk500v2 protocol internal. but when you order try to get it local since shipping times will be bad this time a year.

I think farnell stocks this one :
https://nl.farnell.com/olimex/avr-isp-mk2/programmer-usb-2-0-pdi-tpi-for/dp/2144332

i use it as alternative to atmels mkII. you only need to change the firmware which is simple. and it works with all chips too.
it is close as you get to the original atmel mkII which sadly is not in production anymore.

recently i purchase a new microchip programmer but there was no time yet to check it.

Hi,
I confirm
from one of my programs

Code:

' M1284p mysmathUsbligh 57600 baud Autoflash

'-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
$regfile = "m1284pdef.dat"
$crystal = 16000000

I use only mysmathUsblight since years , no need any update
I have one spare parts if it is urgent

Thank you Mark for your comment, and thanks JP for your offer. I really do appreciate it both of you.
I have one working programmer (an old embud) which is sort of reliable, but incredibly slow. I also have a broken Kamprog which is waiting for a repair. It was very fast but did not read the AtMega1284p fuse bits correctly and I have been unable to get the mfr to update the firmware, and I don't know how.
I have ordered 2 Olimex programmers following your suggestion. Farnells in Aust and NZ no longer stock them but Mouser do fortunately.
have a great Xmas mark.
