I dont remember all the dependencies but after quick look into the code to use demo you should only adjust TIMER2 COMPARE2 or any Timer you want to 1ms @8MHz. Then this demo should work like it was presented.
If 8bit Timer @16MHz for 1ms was set 249 with prescaler 64 then for 8MHz you need set it (COMPARE2) to 124 at the same prescale.
