|
|
Hello All
With my Olimex ISPMK2 Atmel studio5 and XP, I am able to connect to and program ATMEG8515.
When I try to do the same thing with Bascom's internal programing function I get:
"Could not identify chip with id: FFFFFF".
Does anyone have an idera on what's wrong?
By the way, With windows10 and AS7 nothing works.

This is NOT a bascom issue.
you should make it to work with AVR Studio first. bascom can only communicate with the programmer if you have a good working driver(from avr studio). When that works, install libusb, see bascom help.
when your device does not work , contact olimex support.
I think i have mentioned this twice now. _________________ Mark |

To be clear : every USB devices requires a driver. Some times a driver is built into windows. But it is still a driver. Other times an external driver (sys. dll, exe) is required.
bascom does support a number of programmers with USB interface. This is done by using LIBUSB which can be used to communicate with USB devices. But this will only work when the device is working correct.
And working correct means : a proper working devices(hardware) with a proper driver. This driver is delivered by atmel in most cases.
When avr studio does not work with the device, there is no point in expecting that bascom will work. The only exception is when you install a DEVICE driver instead of a FILTER driver. But only in some cases, like USBASP. _________________ Mark |

I'm a little confused now. I explained that my setup worked with Atmel studio and olimex ispmk2.
But now I hear about AVR studio. isn't Atmel studio and AVR studio the same thing.
Perhaps I have missunderstod everything. Beg your pardon if so.
Can I have the wrong driver installed even if it functions as it should? |

About confusion : you wrote earlier Quote: | By the way, With windows10 and AS7 nothing works. |
So i have no clue if it works or not on window 10?
Anyway, avr studio = atmel studio.
So first step : make the programmer work with avr/atmel studio in windows 10. if there is a problem with that, contact atmel support and/or olimex support.
Or maybe others can help you with that.
Once it works, it will also work with libusb/bascom. if you can not get that going, drop a message. _________________ Mark |

I don't want to be tedious But others who read this may have some use of it.
Forget about windows 10. With win10 the Olimex requires updating of firmware (1.17 to 1.1.
Which I Cant.
The thing is that everything works very well with WinXP, Atmel studio 5, and olimexISPMK2.
Still I get "couldn't identify chipp......" from Bascom.
I shall now order a kamprog programmer hoping that "it will put me out of my misery".
Best regards

MOD : Note that it is not allowed to add advertisements here without prior permission !
I decided not to "upgrade" my workPC to Win10: too many issues with drivers for various HW (and privacy, but that's a different matter) _________________ Bascom AVR ver 2.0.8.6
