Hi,
I am using Norton 360. I have used it for years without any problems that I am aware of. However, I revently noticed on my home computer that it is running slow and I am now getting notifications that Norton is blocking a threat called Adware Adpopup. I ran a Norton "long scan" twice. It showed no problems found but the notices that the Adware Adpoup Is still being blocked.
Can anyone recommend a good alternative to Norton? Or does anyone know how to get rid of this? I did a google search, but it is hard to know which results can be trusted.
I was having bad times with Norton AV, but also with others. Away with it. So now I just use Microsoft Security Essentials. And from time to time I check with C'T Desinfect. That has not discovered anything harmful for a while... It runs from Linux (Ubuntu), so it cannot be fooled like a Windows AV.
Regards, Meister
I used several virus scanner the last 2 decades. Some are good but give a huge load on your pc.
the free ones like avast are good but give many false positives.
virustotal.com can check a file amongst several scanners. this is a free online solution.
bitdefender seems reasonable well. best advise i can give : do some research on the net before you install software. lots of programs come with toolbars and other annoying free apps. so even when you trust something : use the manual install and see what is installed. Use a virtual machine to test things.
good luck. _________________ Mark
