can you tell me how to protect the microcontroller ?

This is cheap and work for most cases.

Or schottky diode in series with resistor anode to micro pin, cathode through resistor to base of transistor.

Yes for outputs that drive with HI-> But sometimes must then remmember to discharge gate of transistor for switch OFF
