Hello all,
An older friend of mine is about to have his 78th Bday. He is a retired EE and mentioned tonite wanting to play with an Arduino board. I am familiar with that in name only, having seen it around and here in the forum. I would like to request suggestions for the best *kit* to get for him! Obviously I would like to use the MCS Electronics BASCOM for program development.
For functionality, he would like to turn on some lights, make one or more motors work... Simple things. But, I think it also would be a good idea to get one that is expandable outside of these simple requirements.
I live in the US and buy regularly from Mouser and Digikey. Can anyone suggest something decent to get him?

Since you're in the US anyway, take a look at Sparkfun. They have great products. You might want to look at their Redboard Starter Kit. The Redboard is their implementation of an Arduino.
