I started this topic because a number of times people ask about what programmers work with Bascom or are having trouble using an old method such as the parallel port type of simple programming but since there are many low cost USB devices out there that there is no need for these old methods. But there still is the question of do they work with Bascom so I hope others will add to here ones they use.

I start with this one http://dx.com/p/usb-isp-programmer-for-atmel-avr-atmega-attiny-51-board-148046 a very low cost USBASP unit that I have and is working with Bascom.

Regards Paul.

The USB-ISP from Embud also works with BASCOM-AVR. It is available in the MCS web shop.

And recently i tested an IO LPT card. So LPT programmers can work with bascom as well. I would recommend an USB programmer however. They are much quicker.

This is one I built for a computer with an RS232 port I left out the USB to Serial chip and replaced it with a max3232 buffer it works with USB to RS232 cables so my two old laptops one with RS232 port the other 2 USB ports can use it, with power coming from the target it always has the correct voltage for the device with no drain on the laptop and very quick with program loading.

Hi Paul,
I am interested to know if you still use the low cost $5 unit you gave reference to, and if it can be used with the atmega1284p. Also - what drivers do you use, and what did u call it from the bascom drop down list in options?

regards

Hello Neil

Yes it is working fine worked with every AVR I have tried including the M1284 its a USBasp clone and you can upgrade the software on it with bascom if you have another programmer I used my home made serial programmer and updated to the latest from the original developer. It uses USBasp in bascom. I am working with an Arduino 2560 board at present and I do not know why they did not make their inbuilt programmer work properly I have to resort to an external one for the fuse bits etc

Can not fault it for the price

Regards Paul
