Chip MCP2210 works with configurable speed up to a USB2. Can be configured as HID with free software.
Compatible to several OS versions. Maybe not for everybody but those who need to setup a board in the field with a Laptop (or their customers) and can not use an USB-AVR. Can be powered from the USB-cable. Only needs a 12 MHz clock.
Chips in various cases, breakout boads with pins and full kits with motherboards and breakouts for development are available from various Companies.
Maybe worth for some to look up the datasheets.
