I want to use the Mega8 reset pin as an alternate I/O. I am wondering if this will affect ISP (serial) programming capabilities since the reset pin needs to be pulled low before ISP is initiated. Thanks for any help |

Hi,
If you disable the reset pin to use it as an I/O, you have no reset pin anymore.
Very obvious.
So serial programming is not possible anymore.
Best regards,

How do you get around with this problem? I guess this feature is pretty much useless if you plan to impliment ISP on your board for future upgrades. |

Hi,
That's it. After you program the fuse to use reset as I/O, you have to use parallel programming to change it back or reprogram the controller.
There's no other way to get around with this.
BTW.: My information is only from the datasheet, just read it.
Best regards,
