Hello forum readers,

I am using Bascom AVR VERSION 2.0.8.5. And the programmer is STK200/STK300.
After switching to a new computer with Windows 11, no icons are visible when programming. There are, however, a number of empty squares to be seen. The functions in these empty squares work well.

I had this error before on 5/9/2022 when installing Bascom AVR in Windows 7.
The error number then was MC#JST-52746-678.
This error was then resolved with a new release of Bascom AVR.
I have now tried twice to report this error to MCS via email, but unfortunately have not received a response yet.

Does anyone have an idea how I should solve this?

Thank you in advance for your response,

Loek

the solution is obvious : use the updated exe you got.

when a ticket is closed you should not use it again.
many users make the same mistake : they keep using one ticket for all their questions.
most users simply reply to an old email and change the subject. but that will not work. the support system will still identify it as the old ticket and put it there where it becomes unnoticed.

i looked up your old ticket and you asked if companies get different support compared to private users. there is no difference.
the support reaction is based on :
- legit license or not
- age of the license
- number of questions in 1 ticket
- information provided

of course some companies with SLA or contributing users from the SLA forum get a higher response level.

in some cases we also wait with a reaction because many times the user finds the solution by checking the help or fixing their hardware (all customers assume their hardware is flawless
Very Happy )

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply. You write that “the solution is obvious : use the updated exe you got. “ But this update was then in Windows 7 . I no longer have this update and so I did a complete fresh installation under Windows 11 . And then applied the old license file. On the attachment you can see what the version number, etc. is.

I assumed that "old bugs" are no longer present.
When requesting an update now, the message appears that “No newer version found” .
Maybe I don't understand this could also be because of my age (73) but what is the solution now?

Yours sincerely,

Loek

you got a beta version from support since you reported the problem. it is not published (released) so when you do a normal update you will not get that version.
since you deleted the beta you got it means you must wait till the official release. (or check your old PC for that file you downloaded).
and before you ask ; we do not give release dates. fact is that it is delayed because of work on the xtiny platform.

I have exactly the same problem, and am using win 11 with several programmers, all of which have blank squares where the icons used to be. I just put up with it, and remember which empty square does what.

many programmers share the same interface. these are mainly the ancient programmers.
but do me a favor and let me know exactly which programmers have this problem.
there could be some other problem so i like to verify.
and i like to have it fixed for the next release when the problem still persists.

also, the tool tip should give a description of the function. and there is always the menu too.

Hello Mark,
I have 4 programmers. I have just now checked all 4 with a small flash LED test program I use to test boards.
I'm using win10 and the Atmega1284p

1. EMBUD
This programmer is an old standby and is very reliable, never fails but is VERY slow with large programs.
The programmer reads the
lock & fuse bits correctly as FF,C7,D0,FD
In 'program flash' - there are 5 empty squares below the file/buffer/chip headings.
Hovering over the empty square brings up the correct label.

2. KAPPROG
Nice & fast programmer with large programs, but reading the fuse bits gives the correct codes FF,C7,D0,FD but the tick box for Jtag is incorrectly ticked.
(I'm assuming this is a Kamprog problem. Ive emailed the mfr several times, but no response, so i dont use this programmer to set fuse bits because i dont trust it).
Doesnt have the faulty 'empty windows'

3 Olimex AVR ISP MK2
Nice & Fast. Doesnt have the same display issues as 1.
Reads the lock & fuse bits correctly.
