Hi All,

Maybe is time to support Mark with a paid upgrade , if Mark agrees , to implement a new version of Bascom with support to some new families of Attiny and Atmega microcontrolers.

I don't feel myself comfortable with not pay for any upgrade since I paid for Bascom in 2012. Mark has made this software very useful to many of us.

Maybe Make can make one pool to see how many users are OK to pay for it ?

What you think about this, BASCOM REGISTERED USERS ?

Paulo

Hi Paulo
I agree with you.
a few years ago some of us gave some money to Mark for his work, I'm willing to pay him 50% of the Bascom price for each update, knowing that all updates support some useful new features.
Please Mark "Do it !"

The weather is beautiful in the mountains of the south of France where I spend a few days with my granddaughters.

This I think may be more complicated than just some more money
time is probably the big need it may mean employing another to help
so that is a lot of money.
Some of the new micros have useful features like 12bit ADC and more uarts
it would be nice to be able to use them,

I was thinking about the problem maybe we can do some of the work?

South of France climate I think is much like Sydney "long hot dry summers, warm springs and autumns" Very Happy

If the new AVR128DA is included, I would pay full.

I want to use the new 4809 family, and sure I'll pay full too.

I reeeeeeally reeeeeeealy don't want to learn C.

So count me in on payment for the next upgrade.

(It would also be extra nice if it included USB support for the USB chips if we are re-purchasing a full License / package.)

To charge for BASCOM version upgrade means that Mark will listen to the user's voice for the version upgrade and take prompt action and responsibility for support and bug countermeasures.
That will be a heavy burden on Mark.

If you would like to thank Mark for his work and BASCOM and would like to cooperate with MCS, please spread the wonder of BASCOM by using services such as homepage and Facebook Twitter in your own country.
I think that inviting new users to buy BASCOM will give better results.

I translate the BASCOM manual into my native language, Japanese, and publish it, which is used by many users.
In addition, in response to inquiries from DEMO users, we advise you to purchase the full version, telling you the advantage that the version upgrade is free.

Of course, I think it makes sense to make a personal donation to MCS!

Most support questions come from users that pick up programming after 5 or 10 years. They loose account info, do not read the docs, and this gives a load indeed.
Customers which recently bought (1-2 years) always get a prompt reaction at support. For older licenses it depends : is the answer in the help, or the forum, is the user a contributor, is a bug found that need to be fixed, etc.

I do not know which chips that should be? All normal AVR with USB are already supported.

Then about new chips. These new AVR series are kind of mix between old AVR and Xmega. The result is a powerful new micro which is more Xmega than AVR imo.
The updi is nice but slow. But there are tons of good new features. With Xmega some shortcuts were taken in order to support the Xmega. But supporting xmega was and is an on going effort.
While we tried to make the changes minimal there are still a number of differences. That is mainly because the hardware is different. When looking back i think the resulting framework and adaption has succeeded.

A problem with Xmega is that there are no PDIP. i think they are not really suited for the hobbyist. But with adapter pcb it will work out too. Or when you make your own pcb which is also easy today.

With the Xtiny as i name them (tiny with xmega architecture) again i had to reconsider everything. I will not bore you with it, but the result is that the complete xtiny is supported in 2083.
But the bad news is that this is an add on which cost money. When there is enough demand we will also add support for the other new X series. It depends on the interest and work if that will be a free addition to the xtiny add on, or that it will be an add on as well.

MCS exists 25 years this year. I started this with a mission. And i funded everything from sales but mostly from custom projects. I always said that when i won the lottery i would make everything free, and that is still the case, but till that day i am forced to charge, which is a pity but necessary in order to be able to exist another 25 years.

A lot is in the works. But as i am more an engineer than a sales person, i hate to sell things that are not ready.
The 2083 release is ready, i only waited for a good moment to release because some problems can be expected : for the xtiny a lot of changes were made. And while the beta tests show no more problems, and commercial projects are already done with xtiny, i know from experience that with a big user base, there is always some error Sad

So check the forum where the 2083 will be announced. the add on will be available after that.

Thanks Mark, very good news !!!

I liked O-Family suggestion, I will start to translate Bascom Manual to Portuguese, and will create my own page in Brasil to show my personal hobby projects and many experiments I made using Bascom .

Maybe this gave us more paid users to help the development.

I’m engineer too, not a programmer, but count with me to translate important documents to Portuguese.

Okay...When I make first Datalogger with SDcard I was think about licenses.....
Every device that use AVR-DOS maked by Vögel Franz Josef and MCS should have it.
AVR-DOS is attached to the Bascom and nearly free to use for Bascom user purpose but ..should be licensed when used in the commercial way.
So...When your project take a picture from the CARD for the background for the nice design and use AVR-DOS for it...you should think Im licensed?

I bought license for AVR-DOS some time ago and Im happy with it. I sleep well Very Happy
So stop talking. Do something Very Happy

Hi JC,

Same thing with me .... since 1980 I program in ASM and untill 1989 I used almost everiday GW BASIC with TSR Asm programs to comunicate with external hardware from PC computers, always using MS-DOS.

I never understand C language.... Bascom is very friendly to me and the possibility to mix ASM code is like living in Paradise !

These new generation chips like AVR128DA and Xtinys brings many new good features, today we can buy small adapters to PDIP format easy and use then in development.
