I post this to save others time who may be having the same problem.
I built an easy tcp/ip board about 2 years ago and after sorting problems with framespace etc got it to work. However, if I left webserver running it would crash during the day and hang up.
I kept checking my code, considered problems with memory usage and ran all kinds of tests. I came back to the problem again last week but could not find the cheap blister power supply I normally use to power the board; fortunately I had my variable bench power supply in the room. Problem solved!
The board is now relaible and I think the regulators are running a little cooler. I guess the blister power supply was not up to the job, overheated after a few hours and cut out briefly. The board needs about 160mA; I still can't find the cheap blister to check its rating. The emabarrassing part of this is that I teach electronics and know that about 50% of my students' practical problems are with power supply (usually lack of) .
When I have some time I will take the board to the lab and have a look at the power supply. In the meantime there is a link to the webserver at the bottom of this page www.davidswinscoe.com/electronics if anyone is interested. _________________ Regards,
