Installed Windows 10 onto Win7 without a problem.
Everything seems to work just fine, including Bascom.

...same smooth transition from W7/32 PRO to W10/32 PRO.
On my Netbook - W8.1/64 home to W10/64 home - everything works out fine except the USB-ISP programmer. Obviously because of a missing driver.
Had anyone else this experience?
Thanks for your interest

Last week on one of my computers I had a 32-bit Win 7 updated to Win 10 32-bit from the Microsoft free update.
Everything worked fine.
The hard drive crashed a few days later (not Microsoft's fault) and to avoid long updates,
I decided to buy a full version of Win 10 64-bit (computer amd 64-bit).
With the 32-bit system the dual monitors worked well with the old Gforce 210 display card (PCIE).
With the 64-bit Win 10, Microsoft Win 10 just kills the drivers that are installed by OEM.
No dual monitor, Microsoft drivers for the display.
So it seams that the display works fine with 32-bit but not with 64-bit Win 10 even with so called Win 10 OEM software.
Ordered a new Graphics card and we will see next week what happens.
Found that when Win 10 determines that the driver is "OK" then you have little chance to change it,
even if it (the installed driver) really does not work. You can imagine what I wrote to Microsoft....
Will post success or failure next week.
Best regards

To Ernst:
The owners name of the BASCOM Website and software is not Albert!!!
It is Mark ALBERTS.
Too many people seem to be dyslexic or do not care to READ.
It would be nice if you addressed the person who helps you by their real accurate name.
My first language is not English either but I try not to be ignorant.
Best regards

Hubert,
It is always best to get a driver from the manufacturer of the hardware. the ones from MS are generic. You can use a driver from windows 7 64 bit which should work.
A good manufacturer updates their drivers. It is amazing that i must throw away good printers just because the manufacturer does not created a driver for windows 7.
A waste of the environment.
About my name : i am used to it and i don' t mind. Even if i sign my name with Mark Alberts, i am used to different names. That was the case even when i worked in a company long time ago. Some wrote Marco or Marc despite the fact that the emails i wrote were signed with my name.
But while we use first name, sure name here, this is different in a lot of countries. On this forum, to be safe, one can use the user name. I always use the user name unless a user posted and signed with his/her name. _________________ Mark |

To Hubert and Mark,
I do apologize for not having used the first name of Mr. Mark Alberts.
Without having checked it - yet - I believe in most if not all my previous postings/answers I did address Mark Alberts as Mark.
From now on I will pay special attention to avoid being taught how to address people correctly.
Best regards

Update,
despite of the use of OEM drivers and a new GT730 graphics card, I had to revert to Win 10-32 to get everything
working in dual monitor mode.

Hi Hubert,
I use Win10 64 bit, with dual monitors run from a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 dual head card. Monitors are completely different, one old BENQ 17" LCD moitor running at native 1280 * 1024 resolution. The other a new ASUS 24" monitor running at native 1920 * 1080.
There are a whole bunch of driver files listed in the Driver File Details info page, some NVIDIA, sone Microsoft. I never had to touch these. In fact I never had to configure anything. When I plugged both monitors in, everything "just worked". I was amazed !
The ASUS monitor is great, and almost I could get away just with that, but having used duial monitors for years, I added the BenQ, sinced I had it.
Dual system works perfectly, even with the different sizes and resolutions. Desktop just extends across both.
Have tried various arrangements of Bascom and other programs open on one or across both screens, and all seem to work ok. _________________ Adrian Jansen

Adrian,
the funny thing is, with 32-bit OS (AMD processor) everything runs OK. ASUS 24 w. 2mp camera and Dell 24 inch.
An other Dell with Intel Processor has no problem with 64-bit Win 10 update.
It also runs on mixed dual monitors. It has the same old Geforce Card.
What I noticed with Win 10, my digital USB oscilloscope did not work right after the upgrade to Win 10.
The unit was not found on USB.
After a couple of days (and obvious Win10 updates in the background...still an unknown) it suddenly worked.
I still have not found an effective way to curb or control updates.
A couple of automatic updates in the beginning even shut down my app.
Next time there is a new version, I will wait a Year before upgrading.
Brother also is a bit late to update their Laser printer/scanner drivers (NOV. or DEC. 2015).
Best regards

I would expect that there are very significant differences between the 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 10. What works on one may well not work on the other. After all, it is a totally different processor ( although still Intel architecture, of course )
Agree about the automatic updates. Have had mine screw up too. Fortunately I took a disk image from before the update, so just reloaded that ( with Internet access turned off ). Then the next update worked, and didnt crash anything.
It would have been prudent to wait a year or so, but I had only just bought a Win8 installation, and rather than learn that and then add Win10 later, just did it.
On the whole, I am impressed, Win10 is pretty slick.
I too have some reservations about the privacy issues, particularly keyboard capture, but a bit of port sniffing to see what is being sent, and where, then blocking that in the firewall seems pretty sensible. Interestingly I tried blocking that traffic in the Windows firewall, and Windows then refused to talk to the 'net at all. But blocking using the router firewall does not seem to affect normal access. _________________ Adrian Jansen

|
|
Hi all.
Had to do a fresh W10 install as my W7->W10 upgrade had USB driver issues.
All those issues was solved after the clean install but now i cant get bascom to run.
Dl'd latest setup + lic, installed and then copied my old BASC-AVR.DLL onto the install directory.
Now it wont start and show me a checkbox saying:
Exception Exception in module bascavr.exe at 001B7952.
Call to DllRegisterServer failed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\MCS Electronics\BASCOM-AVR\saxcomm7.ocx".
Any idea why?
My license is very old and DLL dated 2000-08-31 but worked fine last week on W7 and same PC.
Cant recall doing anything different the other times i've installed on a fresh Windows and have allways worked.
regards
Joakim
Update!
Now it seems to work, tried different "compatible modes" + ran as admin and all of a sudden it started.
Not really sure why or what combo but now it works and it compile good files too.
So i'll close this case. And thanks for a great product btw +15yrs now and kicking. |

Adrian and all who are interested,
finally all of the apps/progs work, including Bascom.
The HD lights sometimes flicker frantically (unknown updates or ????).
My Brother in Austria always says: If my Hard Drive crashes, I just ask the NSA to send me a backup copy of it.
Microsoft probably has an agreement with them, just like with the 128-bit crypto code.
1984 seems to finally be here.
Non the less, Bascom has improved my life and programming speed drastically (before it was ASSEMBLY and others), and that for a very low price and seemingly
with everlasting updates and support. There are not many SW-programs out there with free updates. At least not for such a long time. I am very happy to have found it and bought the AVR version.
Best regards
