I recently received a HLK-RM04 wireless router serial to tcpip development module with this you can send two serial ports via TCPIP to anywhere via the internet. You can create virtual serial ports on a PC with software you can get from the Hi-Link site. The unit is 40mm x 28mm in size with two rows of header pins to bring out the connections with the development board you already have two Ethernet ports a serial port with DB9 and provision for a second serial port. Now not only do you get two serial ports to TCPIP you also get a full Linux based router with all the features like firewall , NAT , filtering , DHCP , Security etc The cost is less than that of a Wiznet module. When I have played with it a bit more I might start another blog using this with an AVR.
Here are some shots of the set-up pages.

module seems interesting but : i downloaded the docs and the info is very limited. did you find a complete listing of AT commands?
such a module is only usable (IMO) when it can controlled completely by AT commands otherwise you need tools and setup to make it work which is not very convenient for a product.
the module sure has potential and a good price so with a good AT command description it would be a great WIFI module. _________________ Mark |

Hello Mark
Yes I found a full set of AT commands you can control and get information about all the settings of the unit but I did have to dig a bit for them from what I can tell (will have to test) the HLK-WIIF-M04 is the same thing just boxed I have seen comments also that the company is very responsive to questions. I see having this in front of an AVR with its full fire wall , NAT etc a great way to add security to an AVR used for a remote sensor you may be able to turn this into a product you can sell.

Here is the user manual for HLK-WIFI-M04 which should have the same AT commands as the HLK-RM04 I have yet to confirm this but I will when I have a chance.

Hi
I have the base board model of HLKRM04 and i want to use it in Ethernet mode (transferring data between two microcontrolers using 2 of these modules). I have been struggling to run this module for so long, it's driving me crazy. I've searched a lot hoping to get a sample code but i couldn't find any. I use bascom compiler but any sample code will help.
I'm a liitle bit familiar with at commands but still a beginner.
I could really use your help.
Thanks. |

I found some manuals here : http://www.hlktech.net/download.php?CateId=2
I would advise to start with just 1 module connected to a terminal emulator. Setup all parameters and learn the AT command set so it does what you want.
The next step would be to connect it to a micro.
When you want to exchange data you need to ask yourself how : one module is server? and the other client? or you use UDP on both?
Maybe someone used this module and has some code to share. it is indeed a nice module and affordable. i found a complete AT list from the link above so it seems well documented now. _________________ Mark |

Hello amir30
I have not had time to do much with the module but with the software to set them up via TCPIP on your PC there was a mode that connects two modules together so that a transparent link is achieved so the two AVRs would appear to be directly connected to each other.

Hey Paul VK.
I am also purchased this module HLK-RM04.
I was wondering what you have been able to do with it.
Can power and TXD RXD be enough to start with??
Thanks

Here is how to use it to send and receive HTTP data
http://rayshobby.net/first-impression-on-hlk-rm04-serial-to-wifi-module/
Very easy, not fast but if you use it for simple web pages it should work well.
Going to need a big buffer in the AVR so the mega1284p would be good.
Notes
I am using one to monitor a solar inverter over the net as a virtual serial port, that is like having a 250Km cable!
