Hi!
I'm trying to control an atapi cd rom with a Philips 89C51RC microcontroller. The interface I designed with the bascom 8051
works pretty fine, but I am not sure if the sequence of commands I
use to initialize the device and load a disc is correct...
Can anyone suggest me how to do?

Not sure that it is the same but...

Perhaps you can check www.8052.com There is a link to a CD-ROM project

And perhaps a look at http://members.home.nl/bzijlstra
There are some low level routines for connecting a harddisk
