Hi,
I think the session expiration time is very shot (almost nothing).
For example the registration page, if you click "back" the site is allways telling you "your session as expire" and force a reload.
Same thing in the search page of the forum. If you want to browse the several hits of a search, when you go back to the search results main page you get session expired and have to reolad...
A a little bit unconfortable....
TIA
Joaquim
PS: This happens after a POSTDATA |

session timeout is 900sec = 15min of inactivity, every click on page reset the timer, is not enough ? _________________ Best regards,

Yes is enough.
But is not working in my browser(s) Not in IE nor Firefox.
1st test:
Do a search in the forum. Browse inside the first hit. Hit the back button.
The page is not valid anymore. The all thing takes less than 8 seconds.
2nd test:
Select Product registration. Login. Select "Modify email address".
Hit back. -> Page not valid anymore.
Less than 15 seconds.
Firefox gives a different message: "POSTDATA as expired from the cache"
But maybe it's me....or my browsers...
I wont bother you again.

Hi,
this sounds as old cookie problem, please try delete old cookies from domain mcselec.com. This login /seesion code is still updating but latest version ~2days old seem work fine (I tested on IE5.5,IE6.0, Firefox 1.0.7)
This : Firefox gives a different message: "POSTDATA as expired from the cache" - sound like settings in Firefox, POSTDATA has not nothing with sessions. I test it, but this window with text ,,POSTDATA...,, ist normal on every site as I know and better is opening link in separate window but I test it also with back button and click OK on window and work ok too.
In register is the same, its normal everywhere on the web, because when you on one page fill any data to forms and click submit, data is sent over POST method to same page and when you sent data and click back browser this interpret same as you click submit again, that is not bug, that is normal thing when is used forms. For prevent this problems is used buttons like Back what is on page.
For other non-post problems, please clean cookies, reopen browser and try login and let me know if is ok.
EDITED : Dont get this post as constitutive, read at end !
Thanks _________________ Best regards,

Hi,
Same as before.
I have tested the "Search" feature only.
Tested on two PCs. (See my previous post).
Test Date: 16.11.2005
Test Time: 18:15 (GMT +1)
The test sequence:
1. Open IE6.0.
2. IE Menu Tools/Internet Options/Delete Cookies. (All cookies deleted).
3. Close IE6.0.
4. Open IE6.0.
5. Go to the forum page and do a "Search". (Searched string = LCD).
6. After 2 seconds I get "Search found 212 matches".
7. Click on one of the matches on the first search results page. (The thread is displayed).
8. Click on the browser "Back" button. (Result see image below).
9. Click on the browser "Refresh" button. (Result see image below).
10. Click on the message box button "Retry".
11. After 2 seconds I get "Search found 212 matches".

Luciano,
as I post in previous post, it not problem with site, its normal, describe information you see on your IE page :
,,The page you requested was created using information you submited in a form. This page is no longer avaiable. As a security precaution, IE does not automatically resubmit your information for you,,
On search page information like search text and others parameter are sent over POST data and when you open any link from it and click go back is the same as you do new search but only IE(Firefox) inform you. That is normal, I can compare this situation where you pay with credit card, you fill your data and click pay, and when you click back to previous page without this inform you can resend data again = you pay again.
Best practice is opening links in new panel to preserve page with search results (IE - open in new browser window, Firefox - open in new panel)
Get my old posts here as not fully correct, because in first post is talking about sessions (,, I think the session expiration time is very shot (almost nothing). ,, ) and at the end of this about POST data what is totally different things.
Session expire after 15min of inactivity = you are logged out.
But POST data expire inmediatelly when you click on Back in browser.
From begin I not fully understand what is the problem (users mixing sessions and POST data), but now is clean, problem is not in sessions but in browser security mechanism, what is in real not problem but function in browsers to prevent resubmit data. _________________ Best regards,

Hi Tomi,
I am not doing a payment with my credit card, I am
just doing a search on the Bascom forum.
================================
Try this forum:
http://www.edaboard.com/forum76.html
(You don't have to register in order to try the "search" feature).
Search for Keywords = "LCD". You will get 1192 matches.
Click on one of the matches on the first result page and
you will be linked to the coresponding thread. Press the
browser "Back" button and you will go back to the first result
page of the 1192 matches. (No browser message, no message box).
Now on the first result page click on "2" at the bottom of the
first result page in order to display the second result page of the
1192 matches.Click on one of the matches on the second result
page and you will be linked to the coresponding thread. Press
the browser "Back" button and you will go back to the second
page of the 1192 matches. (No browser message, no message box).
================================
Back on the Bascom forum:
Search for Keywords = "LCD". You will get 213 matches.
Click on one of the matches on the first result page and
you will be linked to the coresponding thread. Press the
browser "Back" button and you will get the browser message and
the message box. (See my previous post).
Now on the first result page click on "2" at the bottom of the
first result page in order to display the second result page of the
213 matches.Click on one of the matches on the second result
page and you will be linked to the coresponding thread. Press
the browser "Back" button and you will go back to the second
page of the 213 matches. (No browser message, no message box).
================================
Can you please correct the behavior of the
"Search" feature and make it as it is in the
forum http://www.edaboard.com/forum76.html ?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,

How you mean correct it ? I test your link to forum and I test search function in original PHPBB site and I get this results when I click on Back button in browser(Firefox) (message in SK lang, but has same information about POST data)
and
In IE6.0 BASCOM forum works without ANY message about POST data, depend on your browser settings (caching) _________________ Best regards,

Had this problem too when Alberts started the PHPBB board.. After some mailing between us we came after the findings that the cookie settings where not correct..
I have all cookies deleted but still after 30 seconds he doesn't know anymore who i am. _________________ Bascom AVR 1.11.8.8 full version

Hi Tomi,
The search feature of the forum
http://www.edaboard.com/forum76.html
works with my two PCs.
One of my two PCs is new (3 days) and only
the OS is installed.
All I can do is report the problem.
(My previous posts describe what I see on my PCs).
Best regards,

Tomi and Mark,
Thank you again!
I went to www.phpbb.com and I did a search on the forum "phpBB Support".
This problem was reported back in 2004. (See the links below).
The reports are in the year 2004 so probably the new releases of the
phpBB SW are not affected by this problem.
(This is just my pure speculation, I know nothing about the phpBB SW).
You will not find answers to the problem in the links below but one
post from Melbourne has catched my attention, here it is:
==========================
G'day,
I've been trying to track down this issue as well.
I have many members on a forum I moderate who are
constantly asking about this.
I'm also convinced that it's the reason many members avoid using
the search function as much as they should....resulting in many
unnecessary posts and basically replicated topics.
Please help....even if the answer is that it's not possible in current
versions.... whatever, it's quite frustrating, considering how well
everything else functions.
Regards,
Mike (huge phpBB fan!)

In the same thread you can also read:
Yeah. I also noiticed that the search function works fine on the phpbb
community forum, so there must be a fix somewhere..
