If you are using the hardare I2C (TWI) and have enabled global interrupts, then this http://mcselec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=442 may be why.

Yeah Bojan, 1.11.7.7 isn't much fun anymore. We finally had to bite the bullet and went "C". If not for the support of the ATmega48/88 we wouldn't have gone with the .7 version. Things are even worse for the 48/88 series as they changed the internal architecture and several commands simply don't work. We have spend weeks to debug the compiler bugs and write workarounds in assembly......
As Mark seems to have disappeared from the globe (he only sporadically responds to emails) and I haven't seen him post here for quite some time we made the tough decission to trash 5 months worth of programming and switch to a C-compiler. After 2 weeks a good part of the port is done and I expect that it will be running in another 2-3 weeks....

Kdevelop can be configured to run GNU-AVR or you can use WIN-AVR (all free as in beer and usage)..... Then the switch to an AT91SAM7Sxx isn't that big any more, you only have to install GNU-ARM into the same environment. You can even use freeRTOS as an operating system.
