I am new here
my question is how i upgrade my version of bascom-avr?
I think i have version 1.11.7.1 aint really sure because i downloaded the demo of 1.11.8.7 and uninstal the old one.
can I get the "real" 1.11.8.7 bascom or am I forced to buy a new one?

Hi, and welcome to this friendly forum.
The question about updating is frequently passing by.
Underneat is an explanation from MCS about this topic.
Maybe some moderator can make this explanation a sticky topic.
Ok, here we go:
-1- register at register.mcselec.com
-2- you need to register your name AND at least 1 product. (users with
0 associated products i do not validate)
-3- when all is filled in, you need to wait(the goal is that it is
handled within 24 hours, but recent server problems ...)
-4- you get an email when the product is validated. That is new and
early users did not got that. Also, some emails were delayed because
of problems with the mail server.
-5-you go back to register.mcselec.com and login
-6- click the Download LIC icon
-7- download the update wiz when you do not have an external wiz
yet(for example old bascoms have an internal update option)
-8- when you do have an external update wiz, it will update automatic
to 1.0.0.0.6. Version 1.0.0.5 did not give a good visible feedback of
the download process of the wiz itself. so have some patience while it
is downloading. it restarts automatic after it has updated itself.
-9- when you can not get an earlier version of the wiz to work, just
download the wiz from the 'Download LIC' options.
-10- depending on the products you registered, and the products that
are available as LIC, you can download the LIC file.
-11- put the file into the same dir as the update wiz.
-12- make sure the file keeps the extension LIC and do not change it
into txt.
-13- check if the bascom serial license file(not the lic but the DLL)
is in the same dir as where the product must be installed to.
-14- so when it will be installed into c:\test , the license dll must
be there
-15- do not try to update to 1.11.7.9 , this will show that there is
no update because there is only 1.11.8.0 update at this moment !
-16- so the product to update is bascom-avr 1.11.8.0
-17- update.
-18- when you have not a valid license, or use a 1.11.7.9 lic file,
you will see that there is no update available. which is correct
-19- when you can not succeed contact me and send me the log file.
-20- optional you can download the full files. but depending on how
much traffic it generates, i might disable that option in the future
-21-optional you can order a CD with the update if you think that is
simpler.
-22- i do this not for fun, not to bother users, but it is a result of
my attempt to keep updates free for the customers.
what do you think will happen when i make a new IDE available? Or a
simple file as a DAT file. I hope you can understand that it is better
to download only the changed files then.
And further i do not like the idea that pirates steal my soft and also
my bandwidth and try to get support or use the forum.
Too bad this gives some problems to honest customers. But i think that
is a small price for free updates. |
