I am working on a project with a group. They have an existing controller, which is using a Futaba controller that has been hacked to use wires, then down to a PIC, which in-turn goes to a set of H-bridges.

I wonder -- why is the PIC used? Can the wires from the Futaba controller be used directly? How far can pwm travel before the line resistance affects the signal? I want to replicate what they did, but so it in a smarter way. Are there any known hacks for using a Futaba as an input device using a wire?

Thanks in advance,

-Kevin
