If you have more samples of the micro, swap them and count blinks until you find one with 30 blinks.

maybe it's faster to copy the eeprom byte to RAM at powerup, and after changing the content. Then use the RAM.
You could even easily do calculations on the RAM-byte, and afterwards copy it back to t ... |

You must use a word for the adc. A byte would not reduce accuracy, but lead to completely false results. |
