to have an idee of what to do.

may be it is just a problem of contrast level,
like the lcd contrast is digital , if you don t put the right value in register you display nothing.

wich operational mode do you use ?
8 bit ,4 bit ,serial ?
if you use the 8 bit mode you can check if the controller as received the command otherwise not.

i notice a small difference between my schematic and your

pin 1 and 40 of the lcd are directly to ground on my schematic

pin 33 of the PCF not used

i dont know if it can help you

for the spi speed you can see in the config mmc if the register SPSR is set to 1

if SPSR is set to 1 spi work at clock oscillator /2
if SPSR at 0 spi work at clock oscillator /CLOCK ...
