for normal AVR the data type is not important but for xmega/xtiny it has to be a word/integer because the target variable is assigned using a pointer.

you best clean up the sample it has multiple $hwstack for example.

from the help ; W5500 only supports the NOINT option.

that only works with an external memory. because of the protection you can not write to the normal flash when not in boot mode.

you best write some custom subs/function. the normal address is 16 bit and extending it to 24 bit means a lot of work. especial with testing.
using a sub to write and function to read is way simpler.
