As the ATiny85 supports the SPM command, it is possible that a boot loader is installed.
Would you tell how you program the Tiny, ISP or serial via USB/RS232?
Also I'd like to see the fuse settings.

It's no SW issue.
Compiled each version, 1_2 & 3_4, disassembled the hex and compared.
Only the port-related opcodes differ, everything else is exact the same.
For example the one reads
sbi p1 ...

Program connector in / out.
Pullups connected
No difference.
Write some small code to toggle the pins in question.

to be able to run your code, I enable the interrupts here:
Enable Adca_ch0 , Lo
Enable Adca_ch1 , Lo
Enable Interrupts
If configured for ASM-mode this should be not required.
But agreed, a tiny ...

I think is the limit of the interrupt driven ADC instead of the DMA.
You're wrong, the current limit is ADC conversion time.
Try a lower prescaler, you will loose precision however.

The following ...

I will give a try of example 2 from that AN

A = B | CA = B OR C

A = B & CA = B AND C

A = B ~ CA = B NOT C

R101/102 are harmful, remove them, R103/104 are factor 10 too high, 4k7 is more appropriate.
I2CInit enables internal pullips on the pins, these are in the range of 15k to 20k.
All together this cre ...

What do you mean with the above advice?
You know what a climbing algorithm is?
Start accounting as soon the current sampled value is higher than the previous, stop accounting if it becomes lower.
